Masters: Adult Rowing

Beginning Class

ORRA’s Beginner class is geared to develop the participant’s ability and fitness from learn-to-row toward a more advanced mastery of rowing over the course of a year.   After completing the Beginner class, you are eligible for the ORRA Advanced Class.

Prerequisite—completion of Learn-to-Row class or less than 1 year of rowing experience.  ORRA membership is not required for the first season.  After that, you must join ORRA to continue in the program

Advanced Class

Picking up the tempo a little bit, these classes are designed to focus on the fitness of the participant while blade handling skills continue to improve. This is a good level for an experienced participant that may need a little extra time to focus on technique. Participants train for the Oak Ridge Dogwood Regatta as well as the Secret City Head Race which are held in Oak Ridge. Prerequisite for this class completion of Beginning class or previous experience.  ORRA membership is required.

Competitive Class

Some participants have the need for speed! All participants should have at least two years experience to allow the best atmosphere for those participants that want to go fast and hard! Practices are more intense and held at a quicker pace. The Competitive class goals include refining technique, strength and general conditioning as well as race plans and strategy, with a focus toward competition. Participants will train for regattas held at Oak Ridge and at other venues. ORRA membership is required.
