On the weekend of June 23-24, thirteen rowers from the Oak Ridge Rowing Association competed in US Rowing's Southeast Masters Regional Championships in Augusta, Georgia. Led by Alyssa Nealon, who won gold medals in all four events she competed in, the Atomic rowers took golds in six events, a silver in one, and bronze medals in two.
Nealon—a 28-year-old architect with R2R Studio, LLC, who began rowing just a year ago—placed first in the women’s novice single; mixed masters AA-B, with Jim Rogers; mixed quad A-B, with Matthias Lorenz, Rocio Uria Martinez, and Jon Zetterberg; and women’s quad C, with Cathy Dowhos O'Gorman, Rocio Uria Martinez, and Nancy Schay.
Mike Schay won gold in the men's single F and in the mixed quad E, with Cathy Dowhos O'Gorman, Jim Rogers, and Nancy Schay.
Emre Gurpinar took silver in the men's lightweight single A.
Cathy Dowhos O'Gorman placed third in the women’s single E-F. Brooks Clark, Emre Gurpinar, Matthias Lorenz, and Jon Zetterberg took bronze in the men's Quad C.
