New Year’s Day Row
January 6, 2014
Oak Ridge – On a brisk but sunny New Year’s morning, 37 rowers arrived at the Oak Ridge Rowing Association with one goal in mind – to ring in the New Year ROWING! At 11am, the club members and some friends took hold of their boats, three 8+’s, two 4x’s and a 2x, and set out.
The crews rowed through a fine mist over glass-like water to the train bridge north of the racecourse. Then, as if from out of nowhere, bottles of champagne emerged. Corks began to fly as toasts and cheers ensued. Happy New Year ORRA style!!
Crews made their way back to the boathouse, return the boats to their racks and proceed to El Canterito for lunch. All agreed it was the most fitting way to end a great New Year’s Day row.
Thanks to MJ Sill for organizing the effort and thanks to those who donated the champagne and sparkling cider. See you next year…only 359 days to go!
